A graduate of Glasgow School of Art, Margaretann now lives and works in Glasgow. In the past, her work explored the Hebridean and West Coast landscape through use of mixed media, creating surfaces of rich colour and sumptuous textures with paint, often incorporating layers of delicate paper. Her current practice is taking her into the field of figurative work, creating paintings based on memory, loss, and the nature of human relationships. Margaretann says of her work:"My approach is intuitive rather than analytical; there is deliberate tension between areas of abstraction and finer detail. Most works are a distillation of collected experiences into a visual unity and an evocation, rather than depiction of place. I seek to convey a sense of time passing and lives lived...”
