A graduate of Glasgow
School of Art, Margaretann now lives and works
in Glasgow. Her work explores the Hebridean and West Coast
landscape through use of mixed media, creating
surfaces of rich colour and sumptuous textures
with paint, often incorporating layers of delicate
paper. My approach is
intuitive rather than analytical; there is deliberate
tension between areas of abstraction and finer
detail. Most works are a distillation of collected
experiences into a visual unity and an evocation,
rather than depiction of place. I seek to convey
a sense of time passing and lives lived, drawing
on elements where man has left his mark, for
example, lines and shapes created by old stone
walls, steadings and sheepfolds.”
