John graduated from Humberside
College of Art with a BA(Hons) degree in Illustration. He
continued in this field, working on various theatre and television
projects – including time spent on the illustration
masterpiece ‘The Snowman’. He now paints full-time,
based in the Scottish Borders. His work is a study in constructing
order from disorder – often working with collage and
torn/cut paper, his work is ‘assembled’. The paintings
are designed to express an idea, but at the same time are
given space just to ‘be’ what they are, derived
from the nature of the paint or collage itself. There is often
still a strong illustrative theme and look to the work, and
he has enjoyed tremendous success with his intricate and beautiful
paintings.
