Born
in Kilmarnock, the young Davy was observed sketching during
the course of a train journey by a stranger, who suggested
that he should become a designer. Davy’s talents, nurtured
by his coal-miner father who determined that his son shouldn’t
follow in his footsteps, he was encouraged to view life as
an adventure – a view that persists today.
From studying at Glasgow School of Art, to painting murals
in the slums of Chicago, Davy has led a creative life. In
1996, the need for heart surgery, and subsequent rehabilitation,
allowed time for reflection. It was this time which prompted
him to forsake teaching art to become a full-time artist,
and concentrate his efforts in expressing his love for the
Galloway landscape through paint and passion. |
