Jim is a Scottish artist, based in Angus on the East Coast. He was born in 1949 in Mission Mambasa, deep in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where his parents were missionaries. He spent his childhood travelling with his parents, and came to Scotland to study Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee between 1967 and 1973, taking some time out of his studies to return to missionary work. After graduating, Jim taught in various schools in Angus, and progressed to Principle Teacher of Art and Design. He retired from teaching and now paints full time.

Jim's painting is representational, and often allegorical, with subject matter ranging from figures and portraits, still life, landscape and seascape. These works are painted either in oil or watercolour; often the oils can take up to eight weeks to produce, with Jim making many sketches and compositional studies before preparing a canvas. The watercolours by nature are more direct and hence take less time to produce. His incredible skill in capturing textures, light and atmosphere combine to produce these unique and breathtaking paintings of tremendous quality.

Jim is currently Arts Convenor for the Scottish Art Club in Edinburgh, and President of the Scottish Riley Enthusiasts, a classic car club.
