Jackie has recently graduated in Glasgow with a degree in Contemporary Art. Her background has involved a variety of creative pursuits including children’s book illustration and craft work.
Jackie's bird and figurative work is very autobiographical, integrating her love of books, poetry and stripy socks. Having lived and grown up on the east coast of Scotland she likes to incorporate her experience of rural living with her love of the countryside and the sea.
Now living in Glasgow, Jackie surrounds herself with inspiration, be it flowers, music or higgledy piggledy teacups, teapots and jugs and her work captures little snippets of her daily goings on.
Jackie works predominantly in acrylics, building up layers and alternating paint with glaze to allow layers to be rubbed back,to reveal colour beneath. Textures are achieved by imprinting lace and delicate textiles into a gesso and modelling paste base. Collage is often added giving another layer of interest.
