James was born in Glasgow, and studied at
Glasgow School of Art in the 60’s. Upon graduation,
he set off to Malmo, in Sweden, to pursue a career working
with the Robert Hervieu Gallery – and had several exhibitions
– until he moved on to Munich in the mid 70’s.Once
there, he worked with Michael Hubner Gallery, remaining with
him for around 15 years. He exhibited all over Germany and
France, and also worked on many commissions for banks etc.
He now lives and works in London – working
in the studio every day. Using 2 large easels and 2 large
palettes, James develops several canvases at the same time,
developing them organically and almost subconsciously, and
relating all the paintings to each other as they evolve in
the studio.
There are many influences
on his work, from the Italian Renaissance to Francis Bacon;
yet James’ own style still shines through as his work
and practice develop.
