Robert Newton is a highly respected British landscape painter, who's work seeks to express the light and shadows on land, water and sea. His work often features rivers, beautifully portraying the shadowy pools, soft light and brilliant reflections of his favourite fishing haunts.
His current collection has been done especially for The Morningside Gallery, focusing around the North Berwick area. Robert made several trips up from his home in Morpeth, and painted 'in situ', with watercolour and acrylics on paper, whilst braving the cold and wind!! We are deligthed to present the fabulous results in this very special exhibition.
Robert says of his work: "I describe my work as 'Painting Nature’, as a direct response to my immediate surroundings; exploring colour, composition and expression yet maintaining the very traditions of British painting. Making sketches as well my own visual notes I paint intuitively and expressively with bold sweeping brushstrokes that sum up whole passages of my subject. Painting on location and in the studio, I often rework paintings intuitively to produce a completed work".
