Award-winning artist Susan Winton was Born in Arbroath and now lives in Fife. Susan studied at Duncan of Jordanstone college of Art in Dundee in the 1980’s under Will McLean, Alberto Morrocco and David McClure. She is inspired by her roots in North-East Scotland and her ties to the Shetland Islands.
“My art history studies, together with travels in Italy and Spain have left a visual influence on my work. The use of gold is a reference to the early Renaissance artwork indicating the immortality of the subject and the use of wax over layers of paint or photographs evokes a feeling of history and memory. The use of fish and animals for me represents life and highlights the incongruity between the lives of the ancient animals and the modern style of the way they are treated.”
