Anne began her artistic career with an Honours Degree in Painting from the Edinburgh College of Art, Heriot-Watt University in 1992. She then gained a Masters Degree in European Fine Art from Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton in 1993. She was awarded a Hope Scott Trust Award to fund a trip to Harris in August 2019. Anne currently works as a full time artist from her studio in Edinburgh.
Passionate about her native coastlines, Anne focuses on Scottish seascapes. She seeks to convey multiple contrasting forces and themes in her compositions; where sky meets land, where light meets dark, capturing that the emotions we experience in these locations where the beauty is perfectly observable, yet somehow fleeting and just beyond our reach.
Working in acrylics, Anne uses the quick drying nature of her preferred medium to build the painting in carefully observed layers. She takes a patient, unhurried approach to her process in order to capture the sublime luminosity of a scene through a vibrant, considered palette and the subtle abstraction of light upon land and sea.
