Ciara Neufeldt is a German-Irish ceramicist, based at her studio in Glasgow’s East End. She studied Fine Art, specialising in ceramics, and graduating with a 2:1 from Dundee’s Duncan of Jordanstones College of Art and Design in 2018. Ciara worked as an apprentice in Cromarty Pottery, before gaining an internship at Glasgow Ceramic Studio, where is she now based as a full-time studio member. She has won a number of awards, including the Craft Scotland COMPASS Next Generation Programme 2019.
Ciara learned how to throw using the potter’s wheel, before expanding her skillset into hand-building. She creates her work by combining pigment with white stoneware clay. These coloured clays are then layered together to form a block of pattern, from which slabs are cut, rolled out and reformed. Her aesthetic is one of bright colours and patterns, with a dash of gold lustre. Each item is entirely unique due to the nature of her creative process and her aim is to create beautiful functional homeware – objects of joy - that bring fun, colour and celebration to everyday life through their use.
