Edinburgh born David has an eclectic academic background, having studied Social Anthropology, Psychodynamic Counselling and, of course, Fine Art.
These interests and studies have informed David’s painting which he considers to be, broadly, about states of mind. He is interested in creating and providing glimpses of possibilities that invite the viewer to join the dots in an attempt to reveal what he sees and senses around him, highlighting the beauty and absurdity of life.
Adopting a playful and flexible approach allows David to create works that, even at their most abstract and minimal, hint at a narrative of sorts. He adds texture to his canvases and likens them to snapshots with the quality of a film cell layered with sediment, creating a sense of order over chaos and chaos over order.
