KATE BENTLEY : TWO WORLDS

3rd - 18th May 2025

Kate’s explorative nature and unique imagination has created a truly striking collection of paintings which explore two main subjects – Edinburgh as a city and Kate’s love of gardens – her own, those of friends and the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh. The fusion of Kate’s intensely layered and experimental approach and her ability to work from memory have given us a breathtaking body of paintings, all bearing Kate’s distinctive use of texture, pattern and detail. We hope you will join us for this memorable exhibition.

Marea Hildebrand : Holding Space

5th - 26th Apr 2025

Zurich based ceramicist Marea Hildebrand has a background in painting and textiles. The balance she achieves between precariously small bases and rotund forms expresses her desire to create works that hold space, and have presence, while still expressing fragility. Sculpting for Marea is a means to rediscover stillness, and her ceramics are created through a slow process of coiling, hand building and intricate mark making. The unique surfaces of her pots emerge from a multi-firing technique and countless hours of painting and etching rhythmic patterns, creating one-of-a-kind pieces. We are delighted to represent her here in Scotland.

Since then Stuart has established himself as a leading name within contemporary Scottish painting. His paintings speak of serenity and solitude, with figures and boats set in richly textured, colourful ambiguous landscapes. He creates a world of peace and refuge away from the day to day of the outside world with paintings that depict single figures and couples, all sharing an enviable meditative state. The figures are often involved in an activity beyond the canvas and the viewer – such as gazing out to sea or at the stars, or daydreaming.

7th - 21st Sep 2024

Julian’s new collection of paintings explore the rugged isolation and beauty of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Out in all weathers with canvases strapped to his back, Julian enjoys the challenges of painting outdoors as much as the rewards – the feeling that he is a part of the landscape he is painting. The fleeting changes in weather and light mean it is impossible to capture a particular moment in the way a camera might; what Julian paints is the feeling and atmosphere of the whole day, conveying the majesty and the tranquility of some of Scotland’s most beautiful mountains and coastlines.
