Scottish artist Lesley McLaren, from Glasgow, studied at Maidstone College of Art and Design. She subsequently went on to study at Exeter College of Art and Design. She has been painting as a full time artist since 2000. Lesley currently lives and works from her home studio in the Scottish Borders.
The rich and varied landscapes of the Scottish Borders provide more than enough inspiration for Lesley’s work. From her intricate renderings of wildlife to the expressive, almost illustrative depictions of countryside dwellings, there is an unbridled sense of wonder and joy in Lesley’s work.
Working on panel in oil, she builds her compositions up. Layer upon layer, guiding the viewer’s eye with each stroke. She accentuates detail on the focal points. She does this with a confidence and skill that communicates the joy that can be found and treasured in quiet, everyday moments.
