Born and raised in North Germany near the Danish border, Hilke MacIntyre studied at the Kiel College of Art & Architecture. She later relocated to Scotland where she divides her time between producing paintings, prints and ceramic reliefs.
Influenced by ‘primitive’ art, early 20th Century European art and contemporary design, Hilke’s work takes an abstract approach to composition. She utilises detailed patterning and simplified figures to create scenes that are filled with warmth and character.
Each of her reliefs are created in clay before a plaster mould is made, into which new pieces of soft clay can be pressed to produce an identical relief. After an initial firing, these are individually glazed by hand, adding a unique quality to each piece.
