INTRODUCING : BRENT MILLAR
How to introduce Brent? An artist as memorable as his paintings, Brent lives a truly creative life in which paintings seem to emerge as a natural and inevitable part of a wider coherence and appreciation of being human. Brent’s is a life of conversation, memories, connection, music, poetry and the art of others. Nature also provides a constant source of inspiration and symbolism. Starlings, goldfinches, chaffinches and swans act as recurring motifs through which Brent explores the natural and emotional worlds that we inhabit. Sensitive, intuitive and poetic (and not without occasional humour) Brent’s paintings carry his life force on their wings.

Brent Millar
Born in Edinburgh in 1950 and trained at Edinburgh College of Art, Brent was taught by leading figures in Scottish painting, including Elizabeth Blackadder and Sir Robin Philipson, who noted his abilities as a painter. Further study followed at Hospitalfield House in Arbroath, before a scholarship took Brent to Amsterdam for postgraduate study. Travels to Berlin during this period also introduced him to the energy and experimentation of its contemporary art scene.After completing his studies, Brent settled in London, combining his own creative practice with a seventeen-year career in teaching. He returned to Edinburgh in 1992 to concentrate entirely on his work as an artist. Since then he has enjoyed numerous exhibitions and favourable reviews.
‘Brent delights in the physical act of painting and we can see for ourselves the pleasure he has in constructing complex images. However these works represent not only his desire to express thought and emotion but to celebrate the enjoyment of life itself , a true ‘joie de vivre’.
