ROBERT KELSEY | MARION DRUMMOND
Bringing together two distinctive and accomplished painters, this joint exhibition celebrates the work of Robert Kelsey PAI and Marion Drummond PAI. Both born in Glasgow, Marion and Robert share a lifelong connection to Scotland’s landscape, flora, light, and atmosphere. For Robert this finds expression in expansive coastal scenes, where luminous colour and sweeping brushstrokes evoke the shifting light of the West Coast and beyond. His paintings are imbued with a sense of space and radiance, drawing on a lineage that includes the Scottish Colourists while remaining entirely his own.
Marion’s work is rooted in intimacy and immediacy. Whether depicting lively vases of flowers, a figure, or a familiar object from her daily surroundings, her subjects are always closely observed and felt. Painting directly with her fingers, rags, and palette knifes, she builds her compositions with an instinctive energy, capturing not only form but the vitality and presence of what she sees before her.
Both artists share a commitment to painting from life and to conveying the emotional resonance of their subjects. Light, colour, and atmosphere are central to their work — whether in the glow of a distant shoreline or the vivid bloom of a single flower. We are invited in to wander along Robert’s peaceful, sandy beaches – not a rainy day in sight – and to share something of Marion’s tenderness and close observation of the simple beauty of flowers.
We hope you will join us on Saturday the 18th of April to celebrate the opening and meet both artists.
