Iona Roberts graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a First Class Honours in Fine Art Painting in 2015 and the Royal Drawing School Postgraduate Programme in 2016. Iona is known for her expressive pleinair paintings and drawings, blending observation with unconscious and archetypal elements. Her work captures the shifting light, moods, and atmosphere of the landscapes she encounters, from remote Scottish coastlines to cities like Madrid and Italy.
Iona’s mark-making is energetic and raw, and her practice is deeply influenced by on-location experiences, drawing her immediate environments. Her time at residencies, including Pignano, Italy, and Dumfries House, has enriched her visual language, responding to both internal and external landscapes. Iona’s recent work, a series of mixed media drawings, explores personal narratives and emotional experiences, offering a cathartic journey of self-discovery. Her art has been exhibited in many solo and group shows across Scotland and the UK.
